Purtenance hails from Nokia, Finland and is one of the oldest Finnish death metal messengers. First started in the late 80′ as Purtenance Avulsion. Around 1990 the name was shortened just to Purtenance. In 1992 the first full-length release “Member of Immortal Damnation” quickly became a cult classic. After a couple of years of that release, Purtenance faded into a hiatus for years.
Awakening from slumber in 2011 with a new vocalist and after a couple of new full-lengths and live performances, the vocalist changed again, but the band was pushing forward stronger than ever. After the reunion more shows in both Europe and Mexico were performed and they also released two new full-lengths and then it was time to change the vocalist back once more. In 2025 Purtenance was spreading the flame of the Ancients with fierce energy in Spain, China, Taiwan and South Korea (first time in Asia!).
The rest of 2025 was really quiet BUT! There is starting to be new material written in the depths of purgatory that will be vomited into a new full-length, hopefully released early 2026! There is no end until the whole world has heard the rotten screech of old school Finnish Death Metal!
