Perishing is a Death/Doom metal band from San José, Costa Rica, formed with the intention of creating slow, heavy, and oppressive music rooted in classic death metal and doom. Their focus is on density, weight, and atmosphere rather than speed or excess, allowing riffs and pacing to carry the weight of each composition.
Their first release, the demo “Lutum” was released in 2024 documents their earliest material and approach, centered on crawling tempos, low-end heaviness, and a raw, unpolished sound that reflects the foundation of the band.
In May 2024, Perishing played their first shows outside Costa Rica on a short Mexico tour alongside Astriferous and Mortual, bands with whom they share members.
After returning home, they focused on writing and recording their debut full-length album, “Malicious Acropolis Unveiled”, released in October 2025 through Transcending Obscurity Records. The album expands on the ideas introduced in “Lutum”, with longer compositions, more deliberate pacing, and a deeper emphasis on atmosphere, while remaining firmly grounded in death/doom.
