Mortem

Peru · Iron Pegasus Records

Mortem was founded as a Black-Death metal band in July 1986 by brothers F. Nebiros (guitar and bass) and A. Amduscias (drums and vocals). The band’s main influences were Slayer, Sacrifice, Mercyful Fate, Death, Possessed and Infernal Majesty. After a number of lineup changes throughout its almost 4 decades of existence, four demos, five studio albums, one live album and one demo compilation, the band currently consists of Nebiros (guitar/vocals), Amduscias (drums), Wilber Rosán (guitar) and José Okamura (bass). Mortem was the first Peruvian extreme metal band to be signed by an European record label (Merciless Records), and to play in Europe and the United States. Participation in metal fests like the Gathering of the Bestial Legion, California Deathfest, Maryland Deathfest, Mass Destruction Metal Fest and the like consolidated the band’s position as the most important representative of the genre in Peru, to the extent that they opened for Slayer in Lima in 2011. Also, Mortem is the only ‘80s band in the history of South American metal that never softened its style or changed the lyrics’ subjects, which were always occult and dark, which has earned them a “cult” status worldwide.
